ABOUT ME

I earned my Bachelors of Science degree in Food, Nutrition and Health with Honours from the University of British Columbia and completed my dietetics internship in 2008. After this,  I began my career as a Dietitian caring for a multitude of clients in both the hospital and community setting. My passion in teaching and learning about nutrition has led me to become a Certified Diabetes Educator, to be regularly invited as as a nutrition speaker and writer in the media on hot topics, and stay actively engaged in ongoing nutrition-related research. As a Clinical Instructor at the University of British Columbia, I am passionate about sharing my knowledge on the topics of food, nutrition and health.

As a Dietitian, I have the opportunity to help clients experience the positive results of nourishing their bodies by combining evidence-based nutrition and effective practical solutions tailored to their individual nutrition goals and needs.

MY NUTRITION PHILOSOPHY

I created Sprouted Nutrition Consulting because I want to create a safe and non-judgemental space for us to talk about food and health. I believe in a feel-good, balanced approach to eating well where there are no 'good' or 'bad' foods. Whether you’re looking for nutritious recipes, or you need professional guidance in order to address a specific health concern, my mission is to work with you to create a comprehensive plan of action and to achieve your nutrition goals.

WHY A DIETITIAN?

  • Across Canada the title “dietitian’ is protected by law, just like physician, pharmacist, or nurse; only qualified nutrition professionals who are registered with a regulatory body, such as the College of Dietitians of British Columbia (CDBC), may call themselves dietitians. The CDBC is mandated by the government to regulate dietitians to practice safely, ethically and competently.

  • In British Columbia, nutritionist is not a regulated health profession. This means the title nutritionist is not subject to any regulatory or government oversight and no specific qualifications are needed to call oneself a nutritionist.

  • Only dietitians are rigorously trained to be legally qualified to provide medical nutrition therapy. Dietitians are also well trained to research new and better ways to enhance care, promote health and prevent nutrition-related illnesses.

  • You can trust a Registered Dietitian to provide you with safe, ethical, and competent care supported by scientific evidence.

"My husband and I learned a lot from Tanya! She was friendly, professional, and encouraging. We really enjoyed her balanced approach to a healthy lifestyle - taking into account our personal values and goals, while remaining current on new and emerging research. Couldn’t recommend her enough!"

B.D.

"I met Tanya through a friend (also a Dietitian) and this was an excellent referral. Tanya met me after normal work hours, is easy to speak with, answered all my questions and provided much information. She is also great at following-up. I would not hesitate to recommend Tanya if you are seeking dietary assistance."

"To keep my kidneys healthy, my nephrologist suggested that I see a dietitian. I got in touch with a regular dietitian who had good reviews but informed me that it was a renal dietitian that I needed to see and referred me to Tanya. I had an initial consultation and a follow-up after 3 months. In that period of time following her guidelines, my GFR (kidney function) improved by 20%. Highly recommended!"

"I believe that changing your eating habits is probably one of the most difficult goals to accomplish health wise.  That is why working with a dietitian can be critical in doing so.

My experience with Tanya was very rewarding because of her professionalism, and knowledge of the subject.  She uses these to customize a plan that suits your individual needs, plus steers you into a path that would rather change a painful task into a fun journey."
